What to buy first for a first apartment
Buy what you will use this week. A first apartment shopping list that tries to outfit a catalog house is how you overspend before the first grocery run.
Sleep
- Something to sleep on, sheets, a pillow, a lamp or a phone light plan.
Wash
- Towel, soap, toilet paper, shower curtain if the rod is empty, plunger, trash bag in the bathroom.
Cook once
- One pan, one pot, a knife, a cutting board, a plate, a bowl, a mug, a fork/spoon, dish soap, sponge.
- Food you will actually eat the first two nights. Not a spice wall.
Clean once
- All-purpose spray or wipes, paper towels, trash bags, a broom or vacuum you can borrow if you do not own one yet.
Wait on
- Matching furniture sets, extra mugs, extra throw pillows, “guest ready” anything.
